Worship God Because He Is Above
There are several things I want to do here in 2023.

One of them is to go through the alphabet identifying and describing names and attributes of God.

Our first letter of the English alphabet, of course, is "A".  It corresponds with the first letter of the Greek alphabet which is "Alpha".

“I am the Alpha and the Omega—the beginning and the end,” says the Lord God. “I am the one who is, who always was, and who is still to come—the Almighty One.”  Revelation 1:8
Let’s start with A and worship Him because He is:

  • Above all the noise and negativity we are bombarded by today.
  • Above all the glory we see and seek here on earth.
  • Above all power fought over in our homes, community, church, world governments.
  • Above all created things.
  • Above angels.
  • Above the universe - the immeasurable parts we can see and the even more immense part we can’t.
  • Above the greatest human love we’ve ever known or even imagined.
  • Above everything and person of worth.  Our worth comes from Him alone.
  • Above our imagination and and ability to comprehend
  • Above all time, weather, and physical laws you put in place to keep the our solar system and earth in order.
  • Above all the ways we diminish Him in our minds.
  • Above our rejection and refusal to admit His greatness.
  • Above all and solely worthy of our worship.
As Paul tells the church at Ephesus, “…He is far above any ruler or authority or power or leader or anything else—not only in this world but also in the world to come.”   Ephesians 1:21

If you were going to add something to the list of things He is above, what would it be?  I’d love to hear from you!

  1. Amen, Brandy and Sarah! Thank you for contributing. You are a blessing!
  2. He is above all mental and physical illness.
  3. He is above all the worry, anxiety, and fear we have.
I really like that you put in that He is above the ways we diminish Him in our minds. That is something that I have been thinking alot about lately.

Meet Beth

Beth was blessed to be raised by parents who taught their children to love the Lord.  She trusted in Christ for salvation and followed in believer’s baptism when she was eight years old.

Beth thanks the Lord for leading her parents to First Baptist Church in Jefferson City, Missouri, where the youth choir practiced and sang in the 8:15 am Sunday service each week.   This was great preparation for understanding the joy and the responsibility of serving Christ’s church.

Throughout her adult life, Beth has served in many roles across various church ministries – most of them while working full-time.  Her favorite roles involve discipling women by studying and teaching the Bible and its power for our lives.

She has taught an adult Sunday School class on Sunday mornings since 2010.  In addition, since 2021, she has enjoyed writing and teaching two Women’s Bible studies each year.  She also blogs at bethipock.com about discipleship and daily Christian living. She recently had an article published at thegospelcoalition.org.

Other church roles include co-directing VBS, singing in the choir, chairing the personnel committee, and filling in at the piano when needed.

Beth and her husband, Ellis, have five grown children, three daughters-in-love, 16 grandchildren, and one great-grandchild.
